Rapport

By Ian Urie

In these days of the credit crunch, it's always nice to get a gift.

Online identity theft is unsettling the banks, and people using online banking.
Therefore the banks have decided it is in their own interests to help prevent this from happening.

rap2

Here's one of the ways to help prevent identity theft.
It can be downloaded free from the link below.

Rapport download from RBS

I should also point out that the requirements are Windows XP or Vista and neither of the 64 bit versions are valid.
It also only works on Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8 and Firefox 2 and 3.
AOL browsers and BT browsers can't use it.
As such, I used Firefox on Windows to get the grabs.

So after the install, as seen above, what does it do?

rap5

Well, you get the nifty little tag at the side of the url bar.
Ok, I'm being sarcastic.
Trusteer (the company who make the software), claim that it
helps prevent key-logging, DNS spoofing, nefarious add-ons,screen shooting and other methods from being used.

rap6

Since I got this software from RBS, it protects  the RBS site automatically.
However, as you can see above, any site can be protected.

The software itself is very unobtrusive and I haven't noticed any slowdown using it.
Setting up whichever website you use for banking is easily done and there is help every step of the way.

rap9

You can also see exactly if something or someone has tried to hijack or divert your session.
Obviously, since it encrypts keystrokes, it will make you safer  online during banking, so it is a worthwhile piece of software.
The download is around 400k, so a very  short download for most.
If you'd like to know more about this , click on the title of the article to go to the Trusteer website and read about it.
It may help keep you safe, and that's always to be welcomed.
